Waiting On Wednesday "Things We Never Said"

Waiting on Wednesday is all about sharing the books that I'm eagerly waiting to be released.

This week the book that I'm waiting to be released is Things We Never Said by Samantha Young, the third book in her Hart's Boardwalk series.  I'm a big Samantha Young fan, and I've really enjoyed the previous two books in this series, so can't wait for the long awaited third book.]

This week's question is;

Q)What do your friends think of your reading habits? Are they non-readers?

A) My close friends are used to me by now to be honest.  They know I've always got a book on the go, that they'll find one in my bag.  That if I'm really enjoying a book they'll hear all about it, even if they don't want to.  They doubt think it's quirky but they're used to it.

QUESTION FRIDAY! 15/06/2018 MOVIE NIGHT

This week's question is;

Q) What is the best and worst book to movie adaptations you've seen?

A) I always look forward to book to movie adaptations with excited and trepidation in equal measure.

Some of my favourite book to movie adaptations are;

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green- I thought it was a great one.  It kept all the most important parts of the book.  It was both funny and heartbreaking, and the characters were so well cast.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes- one of my all time favourite books, and I felt it was transferred to the screen really well.  Again the casting was fantastic.  I laughed and I cried at the movie, just like I did with the book.  There were some scenes from the book that I wished had been in there, but overall I didn't feel too cut up about it.

The Martian by Andy Weir- I didn't love or hate the book.  I enjoyed it but found the scientific descriptions very heavy going, whereas in the movie, I found it much easier to take in.  This is one instance where I actually preferred the movie over the book which is a rare occurrence indeed.

As for the worst adaptations, Ella Enchanted by Gail Caron Levine is one.  I love the book so much, and the movie is...different.  I don't hate the movie but it definitely stays from the book.  It's more of a comedy movie, and I loved it when I was younger, but as I've got older, I prefer the book over the movie.

A) I nearly always have a book with me.  I use a lot of public transport so use that time to read.  I've either got my physical book with me, or my Kindle Paperwhite.

This week the book that I'm waiting to be released is A Wish For Us by Tillie Cole.  I absolutely love Tillie Cole.  She's one of my auto-buy authors.  I've loved everything of hers that I've read, and this is being 'compared' to her YA novel A Thousand Boy Kisses, which was so beautiful.  I loved it so much, so I'm really looking forward to another stand alone YA novel from her.

This week's teaser comes from The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on the true story of Lale and Gita Sokolov, two Slovakian Jews who survived Auschwitz and eventually made their home in Australia. In that terrible place, Lale was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival - literally scratching numbers into his fellow victims' arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust. Lale used the infinitesimal freedom of movement that this position awarded him to exchange jewels and money taken from murdered Jews for food to keep others alive. If he had been caught, he would have been killed; many owed him their survival.

There have been many books about the Holocaust - and there will be many more. What makes this one so memorable is Lale Sokolov's incredible zest for life. He understood exactly what was in store for him and his fellow prisoners, and he was determined to survive - not just to survive but to leave the camp with his dignity and integrity intact, to live his life to the full. Terrible though this story is, it is also a story of hope and of courage. It is also - almost unbelievably - a love story. Waiting in line to be tattooed, terrified and shaking, was a young girl. For Lale - a dandy, a jack-the-lad, a bit of a chancer - it was love at first sight, and he determined not only to survive himself but to ensure that Gita did, too. His story - their story - will make you weep, but you will also find it uplifting. It shows the very best of humanity in the very worst of circumstances.

Like many survivors, Lale and Gita told few people their story after the war. They eventually made their way to Australia, where they raised a son and had a successful life. But when Gita died, Lale felt he could no longer carry the burden of their past alone. He chose to tell his story.

An easy question to start;

Q) What new books, authors or genre are you enjoying at the moment.

A) At the moment I'm really enjoying my historical romance novels.  It's always a genre I enjoy, but they seem to be what I'm drawn to at the moment, more so than normal.  I'll pick up historical romance after historical romance.

As such I'm really enjoying authors such as Lisa Kleypas and Sarah MacLean, and have recently discovered Janna MacGregor, and read two of her novels.

This week the book I'm waiting on is actually released today! Wild In Love by Bella Andre and Jennifer Skully, book 5 in The Maverick Billionaires series.

I've loved the other books in this series, so can't wait to delve into the latest instalment.

Mine is going to be a must boring answer- because I can't think of anything!  For the most part- my books live on shelves, I read them, and that's it.  I carry my current read wherever I go.
