"With his praise ringing in my ears I had to duck my head to avoid his gaze.  I didn't want him to know how much that meant to me, or how it made me want to dive him and kiss him all over."

Filthy Beautiful Lies (#1) by Kendall Ryan

  • Format: Kindle Edition
  • File Size: 1729 KB
  • Print Length: 309 pages
  • Publisher: Kendall Ryan Books (18 Aug 2014)
  • ASIN: B00MP6AQ4M
**Warning: this book contains an addictively filthy alpha male who will dampen your panties and own your days and nights. Proceed at your own risk.**

Meet Colton Drake...

I have no idea why she auctioned off her virginity for a cool mill. Regardless, I’m now the proud new owner of a perfectly intact hymen. A lot of good that will do me. I have certain tastes, certain sexual proclivities. My cock is a bit more discriminatory than most. And training a virgin takes finesse and patience – both of which I lack.

Sophie Evans has been backed into a corner. With her sister’s life hanging in the balance, the only choice is to claw her way out, even if that means selling her virginity to the highest bidder at an exclusive erotic club. When Colton Drake takes her home, she quickly learns nothing is as it seems with this beautifully troubled man. Being with him poses challenges she never expected, and pushes her to want things she never anticipated.

A sinfully seductive erotic romance where everything has a price and the cost of love is the highest of all from New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Kendall Ryan.

The two other books I've read by this author, Hard to Love and Resisting Her- I've really enjoyed.  And I hadn't heard of this one, until it popped up on Goodreads feed.  I immediately downloaded it to my Kindle.  Annnnnd read it within 24 hours.
It was a super short, super sexy read.
Sophie, while unrelatable, I did like her character for the most part.  Sometimes she was a bit wimpy for my liking.
Drake- he was totally hot.
I was gripped from the very beginning.  I just couldn't put it down.
The cliffhanger was totally evil!! I can't wait for the sequel out 29th September.
4/5 stars.

Booking Through Thursday 25/09/2014

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted byBooking Through Thursday and a different question is posted every week.

Okay, show of hands … who has read Shakespeare OUTSIDE of school required reading? Do you watch the plays? How about movies? Do you love him? Think he’s overrated?

I've had to read Shakespeare a lot for school and college.  Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet.  So I've not really felt the need to read it outside of school,
I have enjoyed it though.
Favourite writer? No.
Hater?  No.
I've enjoyed what I've read, but plays are meant to be seen.
I've seen any Shakespeare on stage, but I'd like to,
And I am a fan of the three Romeo and Juliet films I've seen.

Waiting on Wednesday is all about sharing the books that I'm eagerly waiting to be released.

This week the book I'm waiting to be released is Lailah by Nikki Kelly.
Really excited for this one.
Released 1st November.

The girl knows she’s different. She doesn’t age. She has no family. She has visions of a past life, but no clear clues as to what she is, or where she comes from. But there is a face in her dreams – a light that breaks through the darkness. She knows his name is Gabriel.

On her way home from work, the girl encounters an injured stranger whose name is Jonah. Soon, she will understand that Jonah belongs to a generation of Vampires that serve even darker forces. Jonah and the few like him, are fighting with help from an unlikely ally – a rogue Angel, named Gabriel.

In the crossfire between good and evil, love and hate, and life and death, the girl learns her name: Lailah. But when the lines between black and white begin to blur, where in the spectrum will she find her place? And with whom?

Gabriel and Jonah both want to protect her. But Lailah will have to fight her own battle to find out who she truly is.

"I twisted toward the sound of a surprisingly deep male voice so deep ad smooth, it rolled over my skin like I'd been draped in satin.  I started to point out that, duh, since I was standing in a bar, I probably did look like I needed a drink, but the snappy words died on my tongue as I faced the horseshoe-shaped bar.""

The Return of Rafe MacKade by Nora Roberts [MacKade Brothers #1]

Paperback: 320 pages
Publisher: Mills & Boon (1 Feb 2013)
ISBN-10: 0263904547
ISBN-13: 978-0263904543

THE TOWN WAS BUZZING OVER RAFE's RETURN...

Some said there would be trouble. Bound to be. Trouble hung around Rafe MacKade like a bell around a bull's neck. Oh, he was as handsome as ever, with those devil's good looks the MacKades were gifted -- or cursed -- with. If a female had breath in her body, she couldn't help but look twice at that loose-legged stride that seemed to dare anyone to get in the way.

And what about that newcomer, Regan Bishop? Pretty as a picture, but a little prim. Would she be impervious to the legendary MacKade charm?

Sure didn't look that way....

Cover:  I really like this sweet, simple cover.

This is the first book in Nora Roberts MacKade series.  My favourite of her books are the ones about families, where you see each member of that family get their own book, and fall in love.
This is one of those series.
I really enjoyed it.
Was it my favourite Nora Roberts book ever?
No.  But it was a light, quick read.
Rafe and Regan were interesting, if a little frustrating.
Over all a nice little contemporary romance read.  I definitely look forward to reading the other books in the series.
3.5/5 stars.

Booking Through Thursday 18/09/2014

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted byBooking Through Thursday and a different question is posted every week.

Do other people in your family also like to read? Or are you in this on your own?

My Mum is an avid reader, and I get my love of reading from her.
My Brother however, can't stand it.  He loves his Marvel or DC graphic novels, but that's about it.
My grandparents, they read the newspaper and a couple of magazines, but aren't fans of books.
I am by far the biggest reader in the family.

The Prince's Cinderella Bride by Christine Rimmer

Format: Kindle Edition
File Size: 488 KB
Print Length: 224 pages
Publisher: Mills & Boon Cherish (1 May 2014)
ASIN: B00IECF4QG

From Texas nanny…to palace princess!

It should never have happened—the night of forbidden magic that turned Lani Vasquez and Prince Maximilian Bravo-Calabretti into lovers. After all, Lani knew all too well that an affair between a lowly nanny and the heir to the throne could only end in heartbreak—her own. Which was why she had to end it before she lost her herself completely…

His New Year's Eve with Lani had rocked Max's world—and now the Texas beauty wanted to be just friends? The single father had sworn he'd never marry again, but Lani had charmed his children and awakened his guarded heart. Will the prince catch his Cinderella before the clock strikes midnight?

Cover: Very generic contemporary romance novel cover.  I neither love it nor hate it.

I requested this one on NetGalley as I enjoy a light, fluffy romantic read every now and then when I'm about to hit a reading slump or just don't know what I want to read.
I didn't dislike this one, but I just didn't fall in love with it either.  It was a very stereotypical romance, seemingly from the late 80's early 90's.
The Prince and a nanny...very unrealistic and yet typical of these books.  If done well, you can over look the unbelievabilty.
I didn't feel any chemistry or real emotion between the characters.
The turn around with regards to thoughtsabout love and marriage came out of nowhere and was rushed.
Over all it was a cute little filler read- but not particularly memorable.
2.5/5 stars.

Seducing Lauren (Love Under The Big Sky #2) by Kristen Proby

  • Format: Kindle Edition
  • File Size: 3739 KB
  • Print Length: 352 pages
  • Publisher: Pocket Books (19 Aug 2014)
  • ASIN: B00GEEYPKW
In the second book in the Love Under the Big Sky series from this USA TODAY bestselling author of the With Me in Seattle series, life in Montana gets spicy when a woman and her divorce lawyer sign off the papers—and sign on to love.

Now that his best friend, Josh, has happily settled down with his true love on a Montana ranch, small-town lawyer Ty Sullivan starts thinking that maybe single life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. And when Lauren Cunningham’s no-good ex-husband comes after her for an unexpected trust fund, Ty steps in to protect her. But soon he can’t help but think of her as more than a client. Lauren’s in no mood to jump into another relationship, so how can Ty convince her that her mistake wasn’t getting married, but marrying the wrong guy?

Cover:  This is one of those cover that you appreciate, but not exactly the thing you wanna be seen reading on the bus.  Problem eliminated by reading on the Kindle.
But I do love this cover.

I enjoy Kristen Proby's Seattle series, and Loving Cara, was a pretty good read for me, but I didn't think it was quite as good as her other series.
I enjoyed this one much more.
I flew through it.
Lauren and Ty were adorable.
He was hot as hell.
And super sweet.  And thoughtful.  And sexy.
And fictional, Erin, must remember he's fictional.
It was a simple plot, woman who has recently gotten out of a bad marriage, falls for complete opposite guy who has secretly liked her all along, romance, sexy times.
But it was just fun.
A light and fluffy read.
I loved the characters and rooted for them.
This was a great contemporary romance read, and I definitely recommend it.
And boy am I looking forward to the third book in this series.  I need it now!
4.5/5 stars.

Waiting On Wednesday 10/09/2014 'Filthy Beautiful Love'

Waiting on Wednesday is all about sharing the books that I'm eagerly waiting to be released.

This week the book that I'm waiting to be release is Filthy Beautiful Love by Kendall Ryan.
It is the sequel and conclusion to Filthy Beautiful Lies, which I read recently and loved.  It ended on a total cliff hanger and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Released September 29th.

**Warning: this book contains an additively filthy alpha male who will dampen your panties and own your days and nights. Proceed at your own risk.**

Book 2 in the Filthy Beautiful Lies series.

I never expected to watch Sophie walk away. She was mine. I would own her. She just didn’t know it yet. New goal: Seal the deal and rock her world so thoroughly she never wanted to leave again.

Highly sexual and emotionally charged, Filthy Beautiful Love is the provocative conclusion to Filthy Beautiful Lies.

This week my current read is Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover.  Teaser comes from page 154.

"His lips are wet from the rain, and they're a little bit cold, but he counter balances that with the warm caress of his tongue against mine.  The falling rain, the darkness surrounding us, and being kissedlike this makes it feel like we really are on a stage and our story has just reached its climax."

Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J. Maas

    20617636
  • Paperback: 576 pages
  • Publisher: Bloomsbury Childrens (11 Sep 2014)
  • ISBN-10: 1408839121
  • ISBN-13: 978-1408839126
Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?

Cover:  Another beautiful cover.  Perfect portrayal of Celaena.  Love the covers for this series.

After the emotionally wrecking experience of reading Crown of Midnight, I was so happy that I had been accepted by NetGalley to read Heir of Fire- so I picked it up as soon as I finished Crown of Midnight.
It was a little slow going at the beginning which was a little jarring after the fast paced thrill ride of Crown of Midnight.  But it's understandable as new characters and settings were introduced which takes time to set up.
Rowan was such an interesting new character- I loved the developing friendship with Celaena.  How he teachers her to both access and control her power.
Chaol- ahhhhh I love him.  So much.  He's so torn and tormented- he feels disloyal to the King he's supposed to serve, but then he wants to protect his friend, Dorian, and he still loves Celaena.
I loved seeing more of Dorian and his...'ability'.  His emerging relationship with a healer, which OMG THE FEELS!!!!!
Celaena was quite different in this book.  She's very depressed after the death of her closest friend.  But her training with Rowan eventually brings her out of it.  Both of them are dealing with pain and tragedy- and have each other for support.
The introduction of the witches POV carried over from Book 2, and they were a big part of the story in this one.  You see them training to use the King's secret weapon.  Boy is that gonna be good in book 4!

This series has been amped up again with Heir of Fire.
I can't wait for the next book.  So many questions.  A cliff hanger that is just evil.
This book, gave me so many feels.  Particularly regarding Dorian and Choal and their separate heartbreaks.

This, is an epic series- and definitely one of my favourites.

5/5 stars.

Booking Through Thursday 04/09/14

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Booking Through Thursday and a different question is posted every week.

We all had to read lots of different things in school—some of which we liked, some of which we didn’t. Are there any authors that you’ve grown to love because you were introduced to them in your English Lit class? Or—the contrary. Are there any you hate because you were forced to read them? Did you ever go back to try them again?

Taking English Literature at A-level meant I had to read a few books I didn't like.
The books I read, some I got to choose for comparison work- such as Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell- so I already loved them to begin with as I'd read them before.
I had to read Hamlet by William Shakespeare and Hard Times by Charles Dickens- which I enjoyed.  Did they become favourites..? No.  Did I hate them..? No.

But there were some I had to read that I really did not like.  At.  All.  Wouldn't reread and wouldn't read anything else by the authors.
Short Cuts by Raymond Carver and The River Sutra by Gita Mehta.
