Pestilence (The Four Horseman #1) by Laura Thalassa

37769929They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.

And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she'll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

Cover:  I really like this cover.  Feel like it’s a good match for the story and I’m actually glad that it only depicts the horseman.

This is one of those books that I stumbled upon completely by accident.  Saw someone on Goodreads reading it, read the synopsis and downloaded it to my Kindle.  And I’m so glad I did.  It’s such a different, unique books.
I wondered how on Earth I was going to connect to a character that basically kills people wherever he goes.  How can you like a character like that.  But you really do get sucked into this story.
Sara is a pretty kick ass female protagonist.  She literally draws the short straw to stay behind and face certain death by attempting to kill Pestilence, the first horseman of the apocalypse.
He decides to punish her by pretty much dragging her along with him and making her witness the disease he spreads.
It’s pretty graphic to be honest, and the torture he puts Sara through is sometimes hard to read.  I seriously did wonder how on Earth was this character going to redeem himself in my eyes- AND how is there going to be a romance out of this.
But it happens.
I was completely immersed in this story, not wanting to put it down.  Some aspects of the story were slightly repetitive but over all I definitely enjoyed- I think all the more because it was so unexpected and unique.
I really look forward to reading the next instalment of this series.
5/5 stars.
