Twisted Perfection (#1) by Abbi Glines

Life outside of her house was a new experience for Della Sloane. The dark secrets of her past weren’t something she ever intended to share with anyone. They would never understand. No one would ever get close enough to find out. There was always a chance she’d go crazy sooner than they expected…

Woods Kerrington had never been one to be attracted to fragile females. They seemed like too much work. He wasn’t in it for the work just the pleasure. A night full of naughty fun had been exactly what was on his mind when he’d laid eyes on the hot little number that didn’t know how to pump gas and needed some help.

What he didn’t know was she was as fragile as they came.
The carefree girl who spoke her mind and didn’t care what the world thought of her was more breakable than he could ever imagine…

Cover: I like these sweet, little covers.

I LOVED the Too Far trilogy by Abbi Glines, so when I heard there was a spin off series about Woods, I was really excited to delve into it.
I really enjoyed this one, but I didn't love it quite as much as the Too Far trilogy. There's a special place in my heart for Rush and Blaire. However, I did like Woods and Della.
For me, the book concentrated far more on sex, than the previous trilogy. I'm in for throwing hot sex into the mix, but I feel like the 'romance' element suffered for it. I was rooting for Della and Woods but can't say I found their relationship 100% believable.
This book held a few pet peeves for me that I can't say without adding spoilers.
Over all I did enjoy it, and I am excited to read the second book.
4/5 stars.

Booking Through Thursday 26/06/14

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted byBooking Through Thursday and a different question is posted every week.
Do you still get excited about new books as you did when you were little? In general? New books in particular, like from a favorite author? Or do you look at all new, unread books with the same level of anticipation?

When there's a book I want to read, I'm ALWAYS excited for it.  Ordering or pre-ordering, the confirmation email, the dispatch email, and then finally opening it.  It's like a mini Christmas.  With presents.  From myself.
When it's a new release from an author that I particularly love, e.g. Laini Taylor, that excitment multiplies tenfold.

Teaser Tuesday 24/06/14 'A Midsummer's Nightmare'

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers
This week, the teaser comes from page 200 of A Midsummer's Nightmare by Kody Keplinger.

"Sylvia had to work the day Gwyneth's bridal boutique called to say I needed to come in and try on my bridesmaid dress.
Bailey's had been done for a while; now it was my turn."

Take Me On by Katie McGarry

  • Hardcover: 544 pages
  • Publisher: Harlequin Teen (27 May 2014)
  • ISBN-10: 037321118X
  • ISBN-13: 978-0373211180
  • Acclaimed author Katie McGarry returns with the knockout new story of two high school seniors who are about to learn what winning really means.

Champion kickboxer Haley swore she'd never set foot in the ring again after one tragic night. But then the guy she can't stop thinking about accepts a mixed martial arts fight in her honor. Suddenly, Haley has to train West Young. All attitude, West is everything Haley promised herself she'd stay away from. Yet he won't last five seconds in the ring without her help.

West is keeping a big secret from Haley. About who he really is. But helping her-fighting for her-is a shot at redemption. Especially since it's his fault his family is falling apart. He can't change the past, but maybe he can change Haley's future.

Hayley and West have agreed to keep their relationship strictly in the ring. But as an unexpected bond forms between them and attraction mocks their best intentions, they'll face their darkest fears and discover love is worth fighting for.
Cover: Not my favourite cover of the series, I don't hate it though. And I much prefer the US editions for this series, compared to the UK ones.

I love Katie McGarry.
Without doubt, she has to be my favourite Young Adult contemporary author.
As soon as I read Pushing The Limits- I was sold, so I've read all of Katie McGarry's books to date- including the e-novellas.
So obviously this was one of my most anticpated releases of this year.
And I loved it.
Not quite as much as I loved Pushing The Limits.
And not as much as I loved Crash InTo You.
Dare You I loved but not as much as the other two.
Take Me On was like that.
I was loving it, but after falling head over heels in love with Crash InTo You- this one didn't quite reach the pedalstal set by it.
Hayley and West- they were both very deep characters with a lot of issues on their plate. I really felt for both of their situations.
I didn't think the relationship of the chemistry between them was 100% believable. I didn't feel as much sizzle as I wanted.
Also, I didn't feel the plotline involving Hayley's ex was concluded as well as it could have been.
Overall though- I did thoroughly enjoy it- and it did bring a tear to my eye.
4.5/5 stars.

10 Ways To Be Adored When Landing A Lord (Love By Numbers #2) by Sarah MacLean.

Paperback: 400 pages
Publisher: Piatkus (1 May 2014)
Language: English
ISBN-13: 978-0749959678

Since being named one of London’s "Lords to Land" by a popular ladies’ magazine, Nicholas St. John has been relentlessly pursued by every matrimony-minded female in the ton. So when an opportunity to escape fashionable society presents itself, he eagerly jumps—only to land in the path of the most determined, damnably delicious woman he’s ever met!

The daughter of a titled wastrel, Lady Isabel Townsend has too many secrets and too little money. Though used to taking care of herself quite handily, her father’s recent passing has left Isabel at sea and in need of outside help to protect her young brother’s birthright. The sinfully handsome, eminently eligible Lord Nicholas could be the very salvation she seeks.

But the lady must be wary and not do anything reckless...like falling madly, passionately in love.

Cover: Another cute, typical Regency romance novel cover. I love that the covers for this series all match.

I thoroughly enjoyed book one in the Love By Numbers Trilogy, '9 Rules To Break When Romancing a Rake', so I was really looking forward to continuing the series.
I love Regency romance novels, and I'm really enjoying Sarah MacLean's humour, and the chemistry between her protonists and her fiery but loveable heroines.
This was another fantastic read.
A cute, funny, romantic read. I definitely recommend this series for fellow fans of Regency romance. I've discovered a new favourite author for this genre.
4.5/5 stars.

17th June [BLOGTOUR] Fall From India Place by Samantha Young (On Dublin Street #4)

Leaving Hannah was the biggest mistake of Marco’s life, something he has deeply regretted for years. So when fate reunites them, he refuses to let her go without a fight. Determined to make her his, Marco pursues Hannah, reminding her of all the reasons they’re meant to be together.…

But just when Marco thinks they’re committed to a future together, Hannah makes a discovery that unearths the secret pain she’s been hiding from him, a secret that could tear them apart before they have a real chance to start over again.

Cover:  A nice cover.  I neither love it or hate it.  I do find myself preferring the U.S cover, purely because it's a lighter, cuter cover that I tend to lean towards.

I knew nothing about this series before reading Fall From India Place.  It's book 4 in the On Dublin Street series, but each story focuses on different characters and so are able to stand alone.
I had such trouble getting into this book.  I think at the start I found it so slow, and dragging because I was faced with lists upon lists of people.  Of course having not read the other books, knowing about other characters should have been helpful to our protagonists back story.  And it would have been, had they not been rapidly fired at me.  I couldn't keep track of who was who and why.  And after a while I wasn't taking any of them in.

Jocelyn: Braden - 6 year old Beth, and 3 year old Luke.
Johanna:Cam - First child on the way.
Olivia: Nate - 4 year old Lilly, and one year old January.
Ella: Adam - 2 year old William, and second child on the way.
Eloise: Clark - Hannah, and Declan.
Penny: ( Sixteen ) - Declan's girlfriend.
Cole: Jo's brother, and Hannah's best friend.
Stephanie: Cole's girlfriend in University of Edinburgh.
Mick: Liv's father
Michaela, and Suzanne: Hannah's friends.
Hannah's Students: Portia (fifty two), Duncan (thirty three), Lorraine (twenty-four).

Plus
Jarrod, Jack, Anisha, Dylan, and Leah.

As well as Marco and Hannah.
And I've probably missed some out.

With all of these people popping up all of the time, I wasn't able to get into the story.
Maybe if they had been gradually introduced I wouldn't have had an issue, but it was en masse.

Marco and Hannah were good friends when they were teenagers, and felt more for each other.  It went wrong and bam years later, they meet again.  I didn't feel that much of a connection between them.
The supposed chemistry- I just didn't see it.  The sex scenes... they were boring. They started and finished in a few lines.  They lacked passion.

The overall story, I liked but there were too many little things that bugged me - plus a plot twist towards the end that was heartbreaking and not really necessary.
I feel I would have got more out of this book if we had Marco point of view as well.  I felt I didn't really get to know him at all.

3/5 stars.

Nash (Marked Men #4) by Jay Crownover

Format: Kindle Edition
File Size: 1466 KB
Print Length: 400 pages
Publisher: Harper (24 April 2014)
 ASIN: B00HPN4G32

Will their past determine their future?

Saint Ford has worked hard to achieve her childhood dream of becoming of nurse. Focused on her work and devoted to her patients, there’s no room for love. She doesn’t need a guy making waves in her calm, serene life—especially when he’s the unforgettable hottie who nearly destroyed her in high school. Dark, brooding Nash Donovan might not remember her or the terrible pain he caused. But he turned her world upside down... and now he’s trying to do it again.

Saint has no idea that Nash isn’t the cocky player he once was. Uncovering a devastating family secret has rocked his world, and now he’s struggling to figure out his future. He can’t be distracted by the pretty nurse he seems to meet everywhere. Still, he can’t ignore the sparks that fly between them —or how she seems so desperate to get away from him. But the funny, sweet, and drop-dead gorgeous Saint is far too amazing to give up on—especially since she’s the only thing in his life that seems to make sense.

When Nash discovers the truth about their past, he realizes he may have lost her heart before he could even fight for it. Now, Saint has to decide: is Nash worth risking herself for all over again?

Cover:  I like this cover...I don't love it though.  My favourite cover remains book 1, Rule.

I'm really enjoying this series.  Tattooed, pierced sexy guys...mmm.  Sounds shallow but I don't even care.
I've yet to read Jet, but I have read and enjoyed Rome and loved Rule.
Nash is struggling with the truth of who his father is, and the lies that he's been told his entire life.
Saint struggles with the self esteem issues caused by difficult teen years, and harsh words from Nash when they were in school together.
But can they overcome these issues and make a relationship together work?
I loved the chemistry between Nash and Saint.
Nash was such a swoon worthy hero.  He's such a great, deep character, and I couldn't help but love him.
I could really feel for Saint, teasing and bullying can really knock your self esteem and effect your confidence for years to come.  I know that.
But there were times when she bordered on whiny...and I hate that.
I just wished she was stronger.
The way she behaved towards Nash sometimes, made it difficult for me to always like her.
In the end, this book got me quite emotional, and I'm loving the Marked Men and I look forward to more book in this series.
4/5 stars.

Told from both Emma and Galen's points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.
  • Cover:  I love this cover, it's gorgeous!  I love the shade of blue, the bubbles, and the metallic pink font is so beautiful.
  • I've wanted to read this book for a while now, but wanted to wait until the trilogy finished so I could marathon it, or at least read them close together.
  • I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
  • It was a really quick read.  I blazed through this in just two days.
  • I loved having both Emma and Galen's point of view.  I loved their characters, and their romance- I was rooting for them.
  • This book made me smile.
  • So much so that I had to pick up the sequel straight away.
  • Definitely recommend this series so far.
  • 4.5/5 stars.

Booking Through Thursday 12/06/14

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted byBooking Through Thursday and a different question is posted every week.

How do you feel about explicit detail in your reading? Whether language, sex, violence, situations and so on … does it bother you? Faze you at all? Or do you just read everything without it bothering you?

For me, it all depends on the individual book.
There will be times when explicit detail is almost expected, I hate reading a book, and suddenly bam!  Just a list of swear words that are unnecessary.  If it fits the book, the setting and the characters it's fine.
Sometimes you crave a read that is that little bit more explicit or dark.
Sometimes you want something a little a light and fluffy.
But really...I will read most anything without bothering me.

Booker's story:
Booker left the police to pursue a career as a lawyer. True to his save the world ideas, he's hired a nervous, timid woman named Tess to work for him as a secretary. As Tess and Booker grow closer, Booker learns of her secret and is determined to free her of the past while convincing her to take a chance on love again. But is he ready to take the chance again?

Cover:  Another beautiful cover for this series.  Really wish my Kindle was colour so I could appreciate it that bit more.

I'm going to find this book extremely difficult to review.
This series is one of my all time favourite New Adult contemporary series, and I neither want to ramble nor spoil.
Booker was such a huge part of the other two books- as Seth and Cole's closest friend.  Seeing him defend and love his friends in those books made me totally fall in love with him, and I was dying for him to get his own book.
The friendly banter of the group of friends, with the endless cat jokes, was so fun to read.  Especially seeing them gradually win over and include a shy and reluctant Tess.
Both Tess and Booker have painful pasts, so seeing them come together was so sweet.
Tess- battling to escape an abusive relationship.
Booker, learning to trust another woman after his wife betrayed him.
I loved their romance.  The chemistry between them was fantastic.  I felt the tension sizzle off my kindle.
It almost reminded my of Nicholas Spark's Safe Haven (the movie adaptation happens to be one of my fav movies ever.)

My heart was in my throat a few times throughout this book - that epilogue Sherry- that was so cruel.  My heart actually stopped for a moment there like "Did I just read what I thought I read?!?!?" Boy did you get me there.
If what I thought had happened, happened, I would have been soooo heartbroken.
As it was, the ending was bittersweet, but a beautiful round up of the series.
To anyone that has not read this series- I urge you to pick it up.
Like seriously.
4.5/5 stars.
Unlovable remains my favourite in this series.
